Around Madurai you will find many granite quarries in the area around Yanaimalai or Elephant Rock at only 12km from the city.

The quarries are like real ovens, full of white dust, where the temperature easily rises up to 45°C,  only local people can cope with the heat to work here .

The famous hard granite stone is exported all over the world. In this stone you find an incredible variety of colours from white like marble to rose up to black.

A miraculous environment, an incredible white landscape where working people seem so tiny in these immense pits, a must to see.
